Please note: books with publishing date prior to 1950 and/or disrepaired and/or encyclopedias, dictionaries and serials are excluded from loan. Limitations or changes may be applied for particular types of bibliographic materials such as course books.

HOW TO BORROW
LOAN FOR UNITO USERS  
  1. Find the book you are looking for on the catalog to check if it's available at BEM. 
  2. Place a loan request (if the item is available) or a reservation (if the item is on loan)  
  3. Wait for the confirmation email informing you about the availability of the book and reporting guidlines to collect it. Item(s) may be collected without booking a seat in the library. To collect your loans please bring your National System health card (with your tax code or "Codice Fiscale" printed on it).

 

LOAN FOR EXTERNAL AND AFFILIATED INSTITUTIONS USERS
  1. Make sure of being registerd at BEM and if you didn't already fill the dedicated from.
  2. Find the book you are looking for on the catalog to check if it's available at BEM. 
  3. Write to prestito.bem@unito.it your personal data and the book's shelfmark asking to reserve it for you. 
  4. Wait for the confirmation email informing you about the availability of the book and reporting guidlines to collect it. Item(s) may be collected without booking a seat in the library.
    A printed (or digital) copy of this email must be shown at the entrance of the library. Bring with you your National System health card (with your tax code or "Codice Fiscale" printed on it).
 
DELEGATED LOANS

You may need to delegate abother person for collecting the books you asked for. In this case you must fill this written proxy attaching to it a double.sided copy of your form of ientification.

 

RETURNS

You can return borrowed items by placing them on the automatic return trolley at the BEM entrance or by dropping them in the 24/7 return box located under the canopy of the new educational area accessible from via Filadelfia 73. In this case, you will receive the confirmation email regarding your return when they are picked up.

 

LOAN EXTENSION

Extension of a loan is possible if you request it no later than the due back date and if no other user has reserved the book.

If you are a SCU accout owner, you can extend the loan by yourself and from home by using the "Personal area" available on the Catalog. As an alternative you may call us (telephone number: 011 - 6706136) or write an email to prestito.bem@unito.it

SENIOR-YEAR STUDENTS

If you are writing your thesis you are entitled to borrow more books for a longer time.

To take advantage of this form of facilitated loan, send an email to prestito.bem@unito.it, including in the cc field of your email your thesis supervisor.

In your email please provide the following data: FIRST NAME, LAST NAME, BIRTH DATE, TAX CODE (i.e. Codice Fiscale), UNIVERSITY REGISTRATION NUMBER.

Please remember that before submitting the degree application, you must have returned all the borrowed items.

DUTIES AND SANCTIONS

Loan is personal and non-transferable and you are personally responsible for the integrity of the item and its return within the deadline. Remember to always check the integrity and state of conservation of the book at the time of loan and notify the staff of any problems.

If you damage the book or return it late, you can be suspended from the service in proportion to the period of delay and in the most serious cases, you can be sued before the judicial authority.

If you lose a loaned book you have to buy it back or, if it is no longer on the market, buy material of equal value on the basis of indications given by BEM. You will be suspended from the service until the loss is compensated.
