About the library

The BEM was formed in 2013 (DR 3670 of 14/06/2013), as the result of the aggregation of the book heritage coming from the Central Library of the Faculty of Economics, the Department Libraries "Diego De Castro" and "Dino and Piero Gribaudi", the Department of Commodities Sciences and from the Book Points of the former Departments of Economic Law, "G. Prato", and Business Administration.

The Library is a reference point for all the librarian services related with research and teaching activities regarding the areas of relevance of the Department of Management and Economic and the Department of Social and Mathematical-Statistical Sciences of the School of Management and Economics. Its aim (as stated in the Library Services Charter [ITA] and the Services Regulations [ITA]) is to guarantee to its institutional users and to people from the territory direct access to the library heritage, to the relevant sources of information and documentation and to the library services, by means of appropriate forms and with the greatest possible breadth.

For this purpose, BEM keep and develops its collections, both paper and digital ones; organizes and offers qualified and technologically advanced library services to support both teaching and research; activates collaborative relationships with the territory, in line with the principles of its "Third Mission".

The Library's heritage (over 280,000 volumes, arranged on over 8 kms of shelves) covers the disciplines of Economics, Management, Economic law, Economic history, Economical geography, Social sciences, Applied mathematics and statistics and commodity sciences.

The Library is organized in order to promote the enhancement of the specific staff skills, with particular attention to measuring performance and user satisfaction.

BEM adheres to national projects such as SBN, ILL-SBN, ACNP, NILDE, ESSPER and local ones, such as BESS.
